Nearly there lovelies. So nearly there I can almost touch it. Cady Grey 2 (yet to be titled) is just about a week away from the finish of draft one! I’d hoped I’d have it in the bag by New Year’s Eve, but unless I have a humungous writing binge tomorrow, it looks like finishing in the first week of Jan. And that. my friends, is freaking massive!
If you know me I.R.L or you’ve been following closely, this year has been a particular shitstorm for me and everyone around me. Before anyone says, I know no-ones been shelling me any I haven’t personally had plague this year, but our lives have featured: new relationships, exciting conferences, children variously having collapsed lungs and being bullied, spouses being hospitalised, with an added side of frigging terrifying near death experiences, heart-break, trauma, more collapsed lungs and pneumonia, concluding in going home from hospital with a ventilator for her. It has been, in short, bollocks.
Despite all that, I got a book finished. With a healthy dose of ‘kick up yer arse’ from Nanowrimo, I’ll have the first draft done. This is awesome for many reasons. Firstly, it means all of you who’ve been waiting for a sequel to The Wheels Of Cady Grey, will have something in their hands (or on their readers) next year. You can find out what Cady’s been getting up to: relationships, a new mentor and the most terrifying villain she’s ever met! But secondly, all the people who’re waiting for the conclusion of the Dark Series, I can finally get on with writing that this year!
So, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my boots, for all of you that have been encouraging me, distracting me, keeping me hopeful, all of you who have been reading, some of the books, any of them, thank you. One special thank you to my awesome stunt reader @fuchsia_palpatine who is all kinds of awesome, but since I am neither a woman or a wheelchair user, she sets me straight when I cock it up. There’s a fab piece about her stealing cakes from Christopher Lee in The Stage, here.
Lastly, if you’re waiting for newsletters, jog on. I’m joking, mostly. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible in the New Year for both SFF and Thirller teams. Ok, go catch up on whatever you’ve not read yet because there’s more coming down the line. We got this, let’s mess stuff up in 2023!
See you on the other side…
